Local horses on winning streak!

There was cause for celebrations in the county in recent days with successes by three horses with Roscommon connections.    Ardalan won the Tara Towers Hotel Handicap Hurdle at the Galway Races on Sunday 5 August last. The horse was second favourite in the race and is trained by Paul Nolan in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.   Ardalan is owned by a Clemackeen Syndicate which consists of Pauric & Bertie Keenan, Kiltoom, John McGrath, Roscommon Town, Sean Cleary, Athlone and Phil Beirne, Athlone. They bought the horse almost a year ago and this is its third win in that period.   There was another winner with Roscommon connections at the Galway Races on Saturday as  as the horse Well Oiled won the Jockeys Association Maiden Hurdle. The horse is owned by Benny Connaughton, a native of Athleague who is now living in New York. The horse is trained by Dessie Hughes.   On Tuesday at the Roscommon Races the first juvenile hurdles of the season, sponsored by the Railway Bar, was won in spectacular fashion by Paco Jack, ridden by Ruby Walsh. That horse is owned by Christy and Breda Beirne from Kilkenny.  Christy Beirne is a native of Ballinameen, Co. Roscommon and members of the Beirne family were joined by a large number of relations and well-wishers to cheer Paco Jack on to its first victory.
