Local girls take top honours at Rose of the Plough

Despite the fact that the 15 contestants for this year’s Rose of the Plough competition came from all over south Roscommon, it was three local girls who took top honours on Saturday last. The title of Rose of the Plough 2008 was taken by Lecarrow’s Aimee Brennan, representing Henry Street Medical Centre in Roscommon.  Aimee, a student in Galway, won €300 and was also presented with a piece of Athlone Crystal. The runner-up was another Lecarrow woman, Aoife Kenny, who represented P. Coffey and Sons Ltd., Lecarrow. Student Aoife received an Athlone Crystal trophy and a cheque for €200. Third place went to Nicola Slattery, of Carnagh, Kiltoom representing the Yew Tree restaurant in Lecarrow.  She received a cheque for €100 and a piece of Athlone Crystal. Bouquets of flowers for the event were sponsored by Dooley’s Florist, Athlone.
