Ballaghaderreen Bypass success last year
Entries are now being invited from County Roscommon for the 2016 Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards held in association with ESB. These annual awards are chosen and presented by the 23,000-strong membership organisation in recognition of the achievements of engineers who have demonstrated exceptional engineering skills through their work.
Last year Roscommon talent was to the fore in the awards, with Ballaghaderreen Bypass winning the ‘Geoscience Ireland award’. (Roscommon County Council, JB Barry & Partners Ltd). The bypass is approximately 13.5 kilometres long, commencing in the townland of Currinah, and terminating in the townland of Rathkeery. Exhibiting a high standard of engineering that resulted in the award, the purpose of the scheme has been to reduce congestion, journey times and improve road safety along the N5 as well as providing a strategic corridor-link passing through Longford, Roscommon and Mayo.
The deadline for entry to the 2016 awards is Friday 2 September. For further information on the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards, which will take place in the InterContinental Hotel, Dublin on Friday November 4th, and details on how to enter, log onto www.engineersireland.ie.
