Family carers in County Roscommon are urged to attend a consultation forum on family caring in Ireland, which will hear from carers in Roscommon, Galway and Mayo. The Forum will be held in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, Galway on Monday, 12th of November at 10 am to 1.30 pm. The findings will be submitted to Government to inform the development of the National Carers Strategy committed as part of the National Social Partnership Agreement ‘Towards 2016’. As part of 2007’s ‘European Year of Equal Opportunities for All’, the Carer’s organisations, supported by The Equality Authority, is holding a series of consultation forums throughout the country. The forum for Roscommon’s family carers is being held in Galway on November 12th. There are currently 2,482 family carers in Roscommon and the forum is open to all family carers, their cared for persons, and any other interested groups within the voluntary and health sector. ‘While we welcome Government’s commitment to a National Carers Strategy, it is essential this is developed in consultation with family carers and other interested parties’, says Enda Egan, CEO of The Carers Association. ‘To fully inform the progression of this strategy, we are urging family carers from across Roscommon to attend this upcoming forum to help inform our findings which will be submitted to Government on the needs of family carers, their issues and their solutions for much-needed support and services.’
