Lisnamult success at ‘Pride of Place’

Runners-up prize caps great week for community

Lisnamult Residents’ Association was celebrating on the double this week after winning the runners-up prize in the urban neighbourhoods category of the IPB Pride of Place awards in Letterkenny. The result followed the announcement earlier last week that the area had been awarded €65,000 in Sports Capital Funding for the development of new dressing rooms at the Community Sports Park facilities.

Residents’ Association Chairman, Anthony Doolin, who provided an update of the great work being undertaken in Lisnamult in last week’s Roscommon People, was thrilled following the result last Saturday.

“We are very happy with the result although we got quite a hop because we weren’t expecting anything. It was a great surprise!

“We had a great evening up there and Donegal County Council looked after us really well. It was great coming home with the bit of crystal too.

“We have a great committee and great work has been done in the area. This will keep everyone going for another while (laughs) and it’s good for Lisnamult,” he said before paying tribute to Cllr. Orla Leyden, Cllr. Kathleen Shanagher, Roscommon County Council, Roscommon Gaels and local schools.

Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Cllr. Orla Leyden congratulated Anthony and the association on the award.

“The award is testament to the great work of Anthony Doolan, Lisnamult Residents Association and the community who work so hard to enhance and develop Lisnamult. The Pride of Place Award recognises the community work in the area from the 1970s to 2017 with the development of the community centre and then the development of the community fields, playground, Community Childcare Facility, community resource houses, Cara House and Marian House and AstroTurf Pitch.

“Lisnamult is looking really well and the community have to be commended for the fantastic voluntary effort that went into making the area look so impressive for the Pride of Place judging.

“It is a pleasure to work with the group as Chairperson of Roscommon Community Sports Park. It has been a great week for Lisnamult. I was delighted to get notification from the Department that the Sports Capital Programme Application I submitted for the group was successful with a grant of €62,500 awarded for the development of dressing rooms and toilets at Roscommon Community Sports Park beside the Astro Turf Pitch.”

Disappointment for Lecarrow Benevolent Fund

There was disappointment for the Lecarrow Development Fund committee as they failed to pick up an award in the community outreach category at the IPB Pride of Place awards at the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny last Saturday night.

Chairperson Billy Kelly said the group was disappointed but not disheartened when he spoke to the Roscommon People this week.

“We are very disappointed of course not to get recognition for our efforts especially after making a positive impression on the judges who visited us.

“We’re disappointed but nothing changes and we will continue our work in the community. We’ll keep going,” he said.
