Dave Dibble Both sides started the game in a gale force storm, but that did not stop United who forced a corner with just three minutes on the clock, but the corner was well defended by Celtic back four. With just ten minutes gone, Celtic won a penalty after a hand ball from a United defender. Max stepped to score, giving Celtic an early lead. All the football was being played in the United half and on 13 minutes Celtic won a corner which saw United scramble the ball a way. United ‘keeper Jennings took a poor goal kick which was pick up by Edmilision whose shot went just over the United cross bar. The first yellow card of the game went to United’s Stephen Lineghan for a late tackle. Then, with 17 minutes gone, Celtic won a free kick which saw John Tierney’s shot go over United’s cross bar. 23 minutes into the game Celtic’s David Casey picked out Max in the penalty box and his shot beat Jennings in the United goal to put Celtic two nil up. The sun started to shine again and against the run of play, United got right back into the game when Pauric Miskell scored past Everton in the Celtic goal. Jennings was the busier of the two goal keepers and made a good save from Max to keep United in touch. 38 minutes in, Celtic won a free kick which Jennings cleared off his goal line. The first real save made by Everton in the Celtic goal was right on half time when he saved a long range shot from United’s Stephen Linneghan. As the second half opened, the sun did a disappearing act and stormy conditions were again a feature. It seemed to suit United as Stephen Linneghan used the opportunity of a free kick to level the game.  Celtic’s first yellow card of the game went to Paul Johnson for a late tackle. Celtic were playing all the football and looked the more likely side to score. On 73 minutes they won a corner on the left on side of the park. David Casey picked out John Tierney who volleyed past Jennings to put Celtic three-two up. On 83 minutes the game looked all over when Edmilision floated over a cross which was met by David Casey and his header beat Jennings to put Celtic in the driving seat. United, to their credit, did not stop trying to play football in this game and on 88 minutes were right back in it after Espimddo headed past Everton in the Celtic goal. Celtic made sure of the points when they won a free kick which was taken quickly. Marus picked out Edmilision who beat Jennings at the near post – game set and match to Celtic. United scored straight from the kick off when Stephen Linnaghan chip beat Everton in the Celtic goal to make the final score Lisnamult Celtic 5 Cloonfad United B 4. Celtic now go into second place but could be overtaken by Shiven Rovers who play on Friday when then take on Roscommon Town. Celtic are sure of a play off place and Cloonfad United have to play in the relegation play offs. Man of the Match Sean Jennings in the Cloonfad United goal who kept his side in the match with some great saves in the first half and did not deserve to be on the losing side.  Manager comments  Danny Doyle told the People that he was delighted with the win but with Shiven Rovers still to play, it’s out of his team’s hands who goes up or who will play in the play-off spot. ‘The Town could do us a big favour if they can beat Shiven Rovers on Friday night.’
