The Roscommon Lions Club charity walk organising committee is calling on all families to come out and enjoy their inaugural charity walk this Sunday (9th) at 2 pm from Hannon’s Hotel. The walk will help fund the construction of safe centres for Syrian refugee children in Lebanon and the construction of dressing rooms for Roscommon Gaels as well as supporting other local charities.
Walkers are advised to either register online in advance at www.iregister.ie/lionsclubwalk or register at Hannon’s Hotel between 1 pm and 2 pm on Sunday. The cost is €10 for individuals or €20 for families.
All marshals are requested to meet at Hannon’s Hotel at 12.30 pm on the day of the walk.
The walk will be led by Castlerea Brass & Reed Band and a group of Syrian refugees from the Reception Centre in Ballaghaderreen will walk in solidarity.
The walk will be followed by refreshments and entertainment at Hannon’s Hotel. Anyone with sponsorship cards is asked to please have them completed by Sunday.
The walk will begin at 2 pm at Hannon’s Hotel and proceed to Roscommon Golf Club, turning right down to the ‘FBD roundabout’ and then left past The Quad and up to library buildings where the 5k and 10k routes diverge.
The 5k route walkers will proceed via Antogher Road back to Hannon’s Hotel while the 10k walkers will head out the Galway Road as far as the Ballinagard Road turn-off where they will turn left and then proceed back to Mote Park up by the Railway Bridge to the Golf Club and back to Hannon’s Hotel.
A number of marshals will be on duty during the walk to give directions and provide any assistance or help needed to the walkers.
