Fine Gael councillor John Naughten, pictured right, has this week welcomed the allocation of funding for public lighting in Monksland and Clonown. Cllr. Naughten had previously called on Roscommon County Council to provide funding for the additional public lighting in the village of Clonown. ‘At a recent Athlone area meeting funding was sanctioned for additional lighting both in Clonown and on the Old Tuam Road in Monksland,’ explained Cllr. Naughten. ‘I would warmly welcome this allocation of funds as both locations are badly in need of the extra public lights in the interests of safety. Regularly ‘These areas are used regularly by pedestrians and concerns had been raised with me previously about lighting by local residents and I am delighted, following my representations, that these allocations have now been made,’ concluded Cllr. Naughten.
