Cllr. Orla Leyden has welcomed funding of €300,000 for the dangerous Ballybride Bridge, under the non-national roads allocation. Cllr. Leyden said that preparation works were completed in 2007 and that work is scheduled to commence on the bridge itself in late Spring 2008. Cllr. Leyden has been informed that Iarnród Éireann has now finalised a design for the bridge and that tenders will shortly be going out for a contractor. She said that it was positive to be at this stage and that once improvement works are completed it will be a much safer bridge for road users. Cllr. Leyden thanked Roscommon County Council and Iarnród Éireann for their work to date in realising this significant bridge project for the area.
