Lecarrow enjoys another successful harvest

There was a strong turnout and sunshine in Coffey’s field last Saturday afternoon for the 3rd annual Lecarrow Harvest Festival.

With the addition of a very successful dog show, ploughing and harvesting demonstrations and horse and sheep shows, the festival is going from strength to strength.

David Diffley, PRO of the St. John’s Community Centre, said it was another successful day for the south Roscommon village.

“A very successful day, the whole area came together for a great community effort. All of the events went off well too and the sun shone, so that was fantastic,” he said.

He added: “The dog show was very successful, people came from everywhere for that. There were people from Dublin, Cavan, Tipperary and even further afield. Mike Mullen is very well known and he put on a great show with some really good prizes. A huge effort.”

The festival proved popular with young and old and offered something for everyone with Mack’s Amusements coming all the way from Wexford to provide the ever-popular swing boats and manual ploughing providing some old-school exercise for those who were willing to graft!

The festival has become a day of fun for the whole family and David is delighted with how popular it has become.

“It really was a great day of fun and the kids really enjoyed themselves. We’re looking forward to next year already!”

With the addition of the dog show proving to be very popular, it will be interesting to see what the organisers have up their sleeves for next year!
