The Lecarrow Benevolent Fund should certainly be on Santa’s ‘nice’ list this Christmas following another successful year of providing much-needed support to those who need it in the parishes of St. John’s, Rahara and Knockcroghery and indeed further afield.
Billy Kelly, Chairperson of the Lecarrow Benevolent Fund, provided the Roscommon People with a brief update ahead of the festive season.
“We have raised over €38,000 this year. Our big fundraiser, which took place in Coffey’s back in June, was a huge success. On behalf of the committee, I would like to offer sincere thanks to the Coffey family for all their support and for providing a wonderful venue,” he said.
Billy said the Lecarrow Benevolent Fund was once again delighted to contribute to a number of very worthwhile causes, both in the locality and in other areas of Co. Roscommon.
The fund donated €500 to the recent walk in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association in Lecarrow as well as €500 each to St. John’s/Rahara Senior Citizens and Knockcroghery Senior Citizens. Esker House received a cheque for €1,000 from the committee.
Billy was also delighted with the Fund’s ongoing relationship with St. Vincent de Paul.
“We gave St. Vincent de Paul €3,000 and they provide a breakdown of how that money is used each year. This year they brought back almost €5,000 into the locality. The breakdown gives an insight into the money spent on footwear and education for example. It’s money well spent because people (who received support) may not come to Fr. Ray Milton or myself but will go to St. Vincent de Paul”.
Billy noted the support giving to those who are sick and may need help paying bills as well as donations of fuel from anonymous supporters of the Fund.
He concluded by highlighting “the fierce goodwill factor” in the parish and praised Fr. Ray Milton, the “very generous” parishioners, the Fund’s vital sponsors, and his fellow committee members for their continued hard work.
