Launch of Roscommon Christmas Festival on 22nd of November

Roscommon Town Team are excited to officially launch their Roscommon Christmas Festival 2023. Step into a world of magic and wonder at the annual Roscommon Christmas Festival this December 9th-10th.

From illuminated landscapes to bustling markets, and from Santa’s grotto to street entertainment, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at the Roscommon Christmas Festival this year, including:

Experience Christmas magic with Chef Sham

Chef Sham will officially launch the Roscommon Christmas Festival with a live festive cooking demonstration at the Roscommon Arts Centre on Wednesday, the 22nd of November at 8 pm.

Come join us for a mouth-watering Christmas culinary experience using locally sourced produce! Join renowned Shamzuri (Sham) Hanifa, a multi-award-winning chef, businessman and broadcaster. Sham can be seen on our screens since 2019 with regular appearances on Virgin Media One’s Six o’clock Show. Currently he is the chef/owner of The Cottage Restaurant; owner of Synergy Café; Director and Chef Consultant for Buffalo Boy Steakhouse and chef/owner of the ‘Chef Sham Sauces’ range.

Special MC on the night is Willie Hegarty, well-known commentator with Shannonside FM and Roscommon Herald columnist.

Bustling Market in the Town Square

The town square becomes a hub of activity during the festival with over 50 market stalls showcasing a delightful array of goods and products.

From beautifully crafted items to locally sourced produce and tempting festive treats, visitors will find something to suit every taste.

The market will also feature live entertainment, including carols, dance acts, street performances, a captivating dinosaur display, and of course Santa’s Grotto at the Harrison Centre, creating a vibrant and joyous experience for all.

Enchanting Light Displays & theatre at Loughnaneane Park

One of the festival highlights, in association with the Roscommon Lights Committee, and brand new for 2023, is a mesmerising display of lights at Loughnaneane Park.

The park’s sculpture trail, nestled along the picturesque pond, offers breathtaking views of the historic landscape. During the Christmas Festival, the park will be transformed into a winter wonderland as trees are adorned with twinkling lights, Christmas scenes creating a magical ambience.

Grand Finale: Fireworks Display

As the festival draws to a close, Sunday evening culminates in breathtaking fireworks display behind the castle.

The sky will be illuminated with vibrant colours and sparkling lights, providing a dazzling spectacle to leave visitors mesmerised and filled with the spirit of the season.
