Launch in Hodson Bay Hotel of 2008 Roscommon County Ploughing Championships

The launch took place last night (Wednesday) of the 2008 Roscommon Ploughing Championships. The launch was held in the Hodson Bay Hotel. The 15th Annual Ploughing Championships and Field Day will be held at Ardmullen, Kiltoom on the farm of Eamon and Helen Leonard on Sunday 6th April 2008, and this promises to be even bigger and better than ever because of the number of counties wishing to participate. This site provides a large ploughing area, spacious trade stand, viewing area, crafts tent area, children’s amusements and, of course, ample parking space beside the ploughing site. Former County Roscommon footballer and Kiltoom resident, Gerry O’Malley, will perform this year’s official opening. Presenting an event of this size and content, both of which continue to grow annually, the Committee are keenly aware that many aspects have to be taken into account and a lot of preparatory work is undertaken quietly, by a large dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers, working together. This event is now the largest County Championships taking place nationwide and is only second in size to the National event annually. Our main sponsors this year in Kiltoom are the Hodson Bay Hotel Group and 1 Base 4 Building. A sincere thank you to the Hodson Bay Management and Staff and to Shane Curran and Joe McCarthy at 1 Base 4 Building, Athlone for their support and generous commitment to the Roscommon Ploughing Association for 2008.
