Last-gasp Hughes maintains Rossies’ perfect start

Allianz NFL Division One

Roscommon 0-9 Galway 0-8

A point from substitute Richard Hughes in the 6th minute of injury-time saw Roscommon edge out Galway in what was a thrilling finish to a poor game in terms of quality football.

Galway led by five points to three after a forgettable opening half and later led by eight points to four after 51 minutes.

But the Roscommon substitutes were key for the second week in a row.

Ben O’Carroll kicked two points to help Roscommon to level the score by the 65th minute.

Then, in the last attack of the match, Richard Hughes pointed from 25 metres to edge the Rossies ahead and now Davy Burke’s men head into a home game against Armagh on maximum points at the top of Division One.
