Ladies winner Cryan tears of joy in Boyle

Without the fear of the Zika virus to hold us back we start our weekly tour of Roscommon’s golf clubs in Boyle this week where Claire Cryan emerged victorious in the Lady Captain’s Day. Liz Dwyer was second, Peggy Feeley won gross and Joyce Boles finished third. In the Lady Captain’s Prize to men John McGuinn got the win with 40 points with Paddy Nangle in second on 39. Charlie O’Donnell took the gross while Paul Connolly finished third.

  In Athlone, the Hodson Bay Cup was clinched by Ger O’Kennedy ahead of Michael Brody and Liam Browne. Meanwhile the Wednesday Open was won by Eamonn McManus ahead of Ray Fagan.

  Up in Carrick-on-Shannon, Anne Keenan won the president’s prize to the ladies ahead of Phil Emmett, Ger Farry and Mary O’Rourke.

  In Castlerea the ladies competed for the Hession Cup on Tuesday last with victory going to Kathy Burke on 70 points just ahead of Mamie Creaton on 71. Meanwhile the men’s team were narrowly defeated by Enniscrone in the Barton Shield.

  In Roscommon, Captain Francis Ferguson took the Sunday Competition with a great score of 43 points followed by Denis Smyth in second place. Mary Seymour was the winner in Category A of the ladies’ while Marguerite Farrell won Category B. Frank Kearns won the Open Seniors Competition while Joan Moran won the ladies’ 9-hole competition.

  Finally to Strokestown where the seniors recently enjoyed golf in Bundoran. Last Wednesday Ollie Killeen, Peter Day and John Irvine enjoyed a win. On Thursday Ollie Killeen came out on top again with Ray Hogan, and Jackie McDonnell. Rose Lally won the ladies golf on the Wednesday while Bernie Talyor was victorious on Thursday.
