Ladies will take on Louth in last eight

The Roscommon Ladies footballers will face Louth in the All-Ireland Intermediate quarter-finals on Sunday week following the draw which was made last Sunday evening.

Roscommon finished runners-up in their group as they were defeated by 3-12 to 3-9 by Longford at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday last. Roscommon led by six points at half-time (2-7 to 1-4). Jenny Shine and Natalie McHugh were the Roscommon goalscorers in that opening half.

But Longford came storming back in the second half and Michelle Farrell was outstanding for them, scoring 1-9. A late Roscommon goal from Laura Fleming was not good enough to save them on the day.

The Roscommon focus will now turn to the quarter-final against Louth and while the team are running up good totals on the scoreboard, manager Ollie Lennon and his selectors will be worried that the defence are conceding a lot of scores – they have shipped 5-23 in their two championship games to date.
