Wexford 0-11 Roscommon 1-7
Roscommon’s Ladies’ intermediate football team will have to defeat Monaghan in their second group game after they were defeated by Wexford by a point – 0-11 to 1-7 – at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon.
Without star attacker Aisling Hanly, who is sitting her Leaving Cert, Roscommon struggled up front and her loss was crucial in the end.
Roscommon did well in the opening half and by the interval they led by 0-6 to 0-4, But Wexford were a different side on the resumption and with Ciara Banville and Chloe Fox outstanding they surged into a 0-9 to 0-5 lead by the 55th minute.
Roscommon were back in it when Aisling Shanagher bundled in a goal against the run of play with four minutes to go but the Slayneysiders regrouped and got the scores they needed from Chloe Fox and Aoife Cullen.
Roscommon face Monaghan away from home in two weeks’ time.
