Ladies set their sights on Leitrim after win over Sligo

TG4 Connacht Ladies IFC: Roscommon 1-15 Sligo 2-6

Roscommon ladies footballers started their campaign with an excellent win against Sligo in the Connacht Championship last Sunday in Ballinlough.

If they can beat Leitrim in the next round, they will qualify for the Connacht final.

Roscommon were on top from the opening whistle and led by 1-7 to 0-3 at half-time. Roscommon’s goal was a well-taken effort from Joanne Cregg just before the interval. There were other fine scores in that first half from Siobhan Tully, Laura Fleming (2), Jenny Downey (2) and Amanda McLoone.

Points from Laura Fleming (2), Aisling McAuliffe and Joanne Cregg saw Roscommon extend their lead early in the second half.

A goal goal from Stephanie O’Reilly and a penalty converted by Elaine O’Reilly reduced the margin to four. But late points from Jenny Downey and Sheila Brady saw Roscommon deservedly home by six.
