Ladies Football: Rossies set for Sligo test

TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Quarter-Final

Roscommon v Sligo on Sunday in Carrick-on-Shannon at 1 pm

Roscommon’s ladies footballers will be confident that they can overcome old rivals Sligo to reach the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship when the sides meet at Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada on Sunday.

Having lost out on score difference for a place in the Connacht final, Roscommon defeated Down easily in the qualifiers and are now back in position to get into the semi-finals. When the sides met six weeks ago, Roscommon won by a point and there has never been much between the two teams.

But Roscommon manager Michael Finneran says that preparations have gone well and that he is confident that Roscommon can prevail on this occasion.

“We have no new injuries and the girls have trained hard. I am very happy with the way things have gone and I have no doubt that we are making great progress as a team.

“I know that it’s probably a standard line but it is true to say that there is nothing between these two teams and that’s the way it has been over the years. But I would be confident that Roscommon will play well on Sunday and are well capable of winning this match. It would be great to mark the progress that we are making with a win and a place in the semi-finals is a very attractive prize for the team.

“This will be a tough game for us but if we play to our potential and have a bit of luck on the day there is no reason why we cannot win it,” he concluded.

Roscommon ran out of luck late on against Leitrim while they beat Sligo by a point but lost out on a place in the Connacht final on score difference so they are due a change of luck on Sunday. Roscommon to win.

Prediction: Roscommon
