Ladies denied by injury-time equaliser

Roscommon’s Ladies footballers are in a great position on the Lidl National League Division Three table after a draw against fellow top of the table side Clare in Ennis last Sunday. In fact it took an injury-time point from the home side to deny Ollie Lennon’s side a third win on the spin.

Playing with the aid of the elements, Roscommon dominated the first-half exchanges and led by 1-6 to 0-2 at half-time. Aisling Hanly was the Roscommon goalscorer in the 17th minute, and with Lauren Shanagher, Aisling Feely, Laura Fleming and Saorse Wynne all prominent, they were in a good position at the break.

Clare improved in the second period and Fidelma Marrinan’s goal in the 47th minute saw the sides level. Laura Fleming’s free edged Roscommon ahead in the 58th minute, but Marrinan’s point from long-range in the 4th minute of injury-time saw the home side rescue a point. Final score: Clare 1-7 Roscommon 1-7.
