No Payne relief for Cavan
All-Ireland Ladies U-16 B Semi-Final
Roscommon 3-6 Cavan 1-3
Roscommon U-16 ladies are the toast of of the local GAA scene this week after they qualified to play Waterford in the All-Ireland Ladies U-16 Football B Final as a result of this excellent win against Cavan in Ballinamore last week.
Roscommon had to recover from an early setback with Cavan scoring a goal within a minute. It was a bad start for Roscommon but three well-taken goals from Heather Payne (two penalties) and Niamh Fleming before half-time turned the game in their favour – and Roscommon led by eight points at half-time, 3-3 to 1-1.
The Roscommon defence came to the fore in the second half and restricted Cavan to just two points. It was a tremendous performance and an inspirational win.
Now Roscommon face Waterford in the All-Ireland Final on Wednesday the 29th of July at a venue yet to be fixed.
Best for Roscommon, who are managed by Tommy Beirne, were Sinead Farrell, Rachel Gallagher, Shannon Dowd, Roisin Wynne, Niamh Fleming and Heather Payne.
