Ladies’ campaign is back on track

Lidl Ladies NFL Division 3 Roscommon 2-12 Leitrim 1-5

Roscommon ladies produced one of their best performances in the recent past to overpower neighbours Leitrim at Ballyfarnon last Sunday.

It was a timely win for Roscommon after their loss to Wexford the previous Sunday.

Roscommon started well and Sheila Brady fisted home a goal in the 4th minute but two points from the Leitrim sharp-shooter Aine Tighe saw them back in the game soon after and the same player scored a well-taken goal to give Leitrim the lead.

Roscommon replied with a superb goal from Natalie McHugh and a Jenny Downey point saw Roscommon three in front. By half-time the home side were three to the good with further points from Jenny Downey, Siobhan Tully (2) and Sinead Kenny.

Points from Jenny Downey and Rachel Ryan extended Roscommon’s lead on the restart. Leitrim then enjoyed a period of supremacy but they could not get past the brilliant Rachel Timothy who made some breathtaking saves in the Roscommon goal.

Roscommon finished with points from Jenny Downey, Siobhan Tully and Laura Fleming to secure an excellent win.
