Roscommon ladies footballers face a crucial away tie against joint top of the table Down in Newry on Saturday. With an away tie coming up next against Laois, this is a defining period for Finbar Egan’s team.
A win would reignite Roscommon’s promotion hopes while a defeat would make that project an uphill struggle.
It looks like Roscommon will once again be without Caoimhe Cregg and Aisling Feely. However, there is plenty to be positive about with regard to the Roscommon performances to date.
Helena Cummins, Ellen Irwin, Aine McGrath, Abby Curran, Niamh Watson, Rachel Fitzmaurice and Aisling Hanly have plenty of experience and have been playing well, while Caoimhe Lennon has been in great form up front.
Down drew with Louth in their opening game and were comfortable winners against Clare and Laois in the following rounds. They have excellent performers in Orlagh Blayney, Ciara McCreanor, Meghan Doherty, Eimear Fitzpatrick and Niamh Rice.
This is a huge game for Roscommon who will make the long journey quietly confident of returning with a positive result. However, the home side will be the favourites to emerge with the league points.
