TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Intermediate Football Championship
Roscommon v Leitrim on Saturday at Dr. Hyde Park at 3 pm
With back-to-back Connacht championships tucked away, Roscommon ladies footballers embark on their All-Ireland campaign with a home game against old rivals Leitrim this Saturday. It’s the curtain-raiser to the big Super 8s game between Roscommon and Tyrone and it’s a game that Roscommon should win with a bit to spare.
Roscommon manager, Michael Finneran, is looking forward to the match and to getting his side back ‘on the road’ again.
“We have a few niggly injuries that the girls picked up in club championship games but nothing really serious to be honest. We will assess the players at training during the week.
“This is a match that we are expected to win so there are dangers in that. We are favourites, but we will have to go out and make sure we do our job properly. When we played Leitrim earlier in the year we got off to a great start but we let them back into it. They have a few tricky forwards so we will have to be careful and make sure we play up to our potential.
“I’m thrilled that we are playing in Hyde Park on Saturday. It’s great for the girls on the team after winning two Connacht titles and it’s great for the profile of the game in the county. It can only be a positive for us. We just have to back up our performance in the Connacht final,” he said.
Roscommon will travel to face Offaly in their next game and will be setting an appearance in the quarter-finals as a minimum goal. The journey starts on Saturday and it should be a win to get the team half-way along the road to the last eight.
The Roscommon firepower of Siobhan Tully, Rebecca Finan, Joanne Cregg, Rachel Fitzmaurice, Jenny Higgins, Sinead Kenny and Natalie McHugh should be enough to carry them over the line with a bit to spare.
Prediction: Roscommon
