It’s another busy period in local sport. Last weekend there were thrills and spills at various venues throughout the county. The county SHC final between Athleague and Padraig Pearses ended in a draw in Athleague and the sides will do battle again next Sunday. There was also great excitement in Kilbride as the local club and Curry of Sligo took almost three hours to settle their Connacht junior ladies club final. There were an unprecedented four periods of extra-time before a point separated the sides at the finish! In the National Stadium meanwhile the Irish Middleweight champion Matthew Macklin, a man with strong Roscommon connections, was successful in his latest professional fight, stopping his opponent in the 8th round of their bout on Saturday night last. Mr. Macklin is currently visiting relations in the Four Roads area. We have a ringside report from Declan Coyne! There were also a number of underage GAA finals in the county at the weekend, in both hurling and football. Full coverage of all those big sporting events this week in The People sports section. This weekend there’s lots of action with the SHC final replay, the senior camogie club final, soccer action, rugby and gaelic football action too. All the major events are previewed in this week’s edition of The Roscommon People with analysis and comment from the participants.
