Crowds will gather in Knockcroghery from 5 pm this Sunday, 2nd of December as the community hosts the official tree-lighting ceremony as part of the annual ‘Let Love Shine a Light’ campaign.
Organisers will once again be joined by members of the public and well-wishers and it promises to another magical occasion for all concerned. Santa Claus will visit the green in Knockcroghery and later on will call in on Murray’s Bar. There will also be carol singing and refreshments at Knockcroghery Community Centre from 5 pm. Santa has told organisers that he is looking forward to meeting the boys and girls of Knockcroghery and surrounding areas.
The tree-lighting ceremony is part of the ‘Let Love Shine a Light’ campaign, which has become an annual event in Knockcroghery over the past number of years. Why not give a gift of love this Christmas while supporting the Mayo/Roscommon Hospice – you can do so by sponsoring a light on the Tree of Light in Knockcroghery for a friend, family member, someone you know or in memory of a loved one.
You will receive a special card which you can send to let them know you are thinking of them. The card can be used as an alternative to a Christmas card or as a memento of your thoughts at Christmas.
The special light can be sponsored for the living or the deceased and will shine on the tree at Knockcroghery throughout the Christmas period. The cards are available from Jackie Doyle on 086-8756797 or Patricia Beirne on 087-1252304. Lights can be purchased right up until Christmas Eve.
“Once again, we are asking for your support for the Palliative Care services in our area. You can purchase a light for €5 for your family, friends, or in memory of a loved one. The light will shine over the Christmas period,” stated the organising committee.
This is an important time for the Palliative Care services in Roscommon as plans for an 8-bed Hospice building have recently been submitted to Roscommon County Council. The building is expected to be completed in 2021. Your support is needed now more than ever.
A special Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29th at 7 pm in Knockcroghery Church for all those named on the tree. Names will also be included in the Ecumenical Service at Knock in January.
A wonderful total of €1,632.50 was raised last year and the committee would like to thank everyone who supported Hospice during the year.
