Roscommon turned in a magnificent second-half display to sweep to the EIrGrid Connacht U-20 football title following a thrilling final played in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park in Castlebar on Saturday.
With the breeze in the first half Roscommon started well and were 0-4 to 0-0 ahead. Galway came storming back into it and by half-time they led by 0-8 to 0-6.
Roscommon were superb in the second half. A super team goal finished by Niall O’Donnell in the second minute of the new half was a crucial score. Galway replied but with only a point between the teams Shane McGinley finished another sweeping Roscommon move to the net in the 48th minute, and when sub Ryan Dowling scored Roscommon’s third goal in the second minute of time added on, Noel Dunning’s team were home and dry after a fantastic game of attacking football.Final score: Roscommon 3-13 Galway 0-17.
Roscommon now face Tyrone in the All-Ireland semi-final at Breffni Park in Cavan this coming Saturday.
