Connacht Ladies Football SFC ‘A’ Semi-Final: Kiltubrid (Leitrim) 5-9 Kilbride 3-11
Kilbride’s brilliant season came to an end in Bornacoola last Saturday but they were very unlucky to have lost out to the Leitrim girls. The Roscommon side kicked a total of 15 wides over the hour and that cost them dearly. A number of vital refereeing decisions went against them on the day and the concession of a couple of soft goals meant that it was not going to be Kilbride’s day.
Kilbride started well and had three points on the board before Kiltubrid struck for two goals and two points to leave the Roscommon champions behind. But goals from Eilish Fannon and Sinead Clabby brought them back into contention. Then two further goals for Kiltubrid saw them ahead by four points at half-time. The lead was stretched to seven shortly after the break when Kiktubrid scored their fifth goal.
However, Kilbride were playing well and two points and a well-taken goal from Siobhan Tully saw them back in contention by the 39th minute. Then, points from Eilish Fannon and Siobhán Tully meant that there was only a point between the teams with 16 minutes left and after an exchange of scores there was only one in it with 8 minutes left on the clock.
But a few bad wides added to three late Kiltubrid points saw Kilbride bow out, but they have had a season to remember. Best for Kilbride were Siobhán Tully, Eilish Fannon, Sinead Clabby, Niamh Shanagher and Tara Taylor.
