Kilbride win thriller

Royal Hotel Junior Ladies Football Final Kilbride                       3-6 Four Roads                             2-8 Kilbride Junior ladies team made it third time lucky when they won the title last Sunday in Elphin – having been beaten in the past two finals. It was tight at the finish despite the fact  that they led at the break by a six-point margin and again in the second half.   Kilbride’s first goal came in the 14th minute when Eilish Fannon crashed home a great three-pointer and by half-time they led by six points.   Four Roads were a different team in the second half. Almost immediately on the re-start they were back in the game. Donna Kelly scored a goal after three minutes but Kilbride re-established their superiority when Tara Taylor’s looping shot went all the way to the Four Roads net.   However four points in a row from Four Roads saw the margin down to three by the 16th minute of the second half. Kilbride were always dangerous up front and Fannon grabbed her second goal, pulling first time along the ground.   However Four Roads refused to die. Kelly grabbed a great goal in the 23rd minute to give them hope and two points from Sinead O’Brien narrowed the gap to only one but Kilbride had done just enough and they hung on grimly to the finish.
