Kepak SHC Hurling Round-up

Pearses edge Dominic’s

Pádraig Pearses 1-15

St. Dominic’s 3-6

Pádraig Pearses eased into the semi-finals but were given a stern test by St. Dominic’s. An early goal from Oisin Kelly helped Pearses into a commanding position at the end of the first quarter but Mickey Joe Egan’s goal for the Knockcroghery men ensured that they only trailed by six at half-time.

But Dominic’s played their best hurling in the third quarter. A goal from a penalty and a point from Naos Connaughton saw the sides level by the 40th minute. Pearses pulled away in the final quarter with Daniel Glynn accurate from frees. Pearses now face Oran in the semi-final.

Scorers for Pearses: D Glynn (0-9), O Kelly (1-0), T Seale, T Cogavin, JP Dolan, J O’Donoghue, D Staunton and S Sweeney (0-1) each. St. Dominic’s: N Connaughton (2-1), M Beirne (0-4), MJ Egan (1-0), T Doyle (0-1).

Roads continue

Four Roads 1-16

Athleague 2-7

Four Roads’ quest to recapture the Mickey Cunniffe Cup continued against Athleague last weekend when they eased past the home side with an impressive display. With the aid of a well-taken goal from their best player Johnny Coyne, Four Roads led by 1-7 to 0-1 at half-time.

Athleague improved on the resumption and Eamon Bannon scored a goal on the rebound in the 45th minute. Despite Eamon Flanagan adding a second goal from a free, Four Roads were by far the most impressive side and now they await the play-offs to see who they will face in the last four.

Scorers for Four Roads: J Coyne (1-7), D Dolan (0-3), J Lawlor (0-2), S Curley, M Kelly, J Moran and E Rogerson (0-1) each. Athleague: E Flanagan (1-6), E Bannon (1-0), C Kelly (0-1).

Oran through!

Oran 1-9

Roscommon Gaels 0-12

Oran are through to the semi-final despite this draw against a battling Roscommon Gaels. Eamon Kenny’s goal helped Oran into a 1-5 to 0-7 lead at half-time with Gary Waldron playing well for the town side. Indeed it was fitting that Waldron grabbed the equaliser late in the game but it was a match that will not live long in the memory.

Scorers for Oran: E Kenny (1-1), J Fallon (0-3), S McDermott and G Keenan (0-2) each, M Dwyer (0-1). Roscommon Gaels: G Waldron and P Lennon (0-4) each, C Egan (0-3), B Mullen (0-1).

Note: The losers’ group semi-finals will be played this coming Saturday in Athleague. At 5.30 pm: Athleague v Roscommon Gaels. At 7 pm: Tremane v St. Dominic’s. Extra-time will be played in the event of a draw in both games.
