Three local TDs were amongst the ‘winners’ when new jobs were handed out by Fianna Fail and Fine Gael yesterday (Wednesday), with Fianna Fail TD Michael Finneran the big winner, as he landed a major Dail committee chairpersonship! Deputy Finneran was appointed chairperson of the Dail Finance Committee by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. Deputy Finneran had been vice-chairperson of the committee during the last Dail term. The new vice-chairperson will be Deputy Martin Mansergh. Govt. Chief Whip Tom Kitt, TD, announced the nominations on Wednesday evening. Local Fianna Fail Councillor Paddy Kilduff has offered his congratulations to Deputy Finneran on the new appointment. ‘This is a singular honour for Deputy Finneran and I congratulate him on the appointment, which is a very important one. I have no doubt that he will fulfull the role with his customary professionalism.’ Meanwhile there were developments in Fine Gael too. Deputy Frank Feighan has been appointed the Rural and School Transport spokesperson for Fine Gael, in a move announced by party leader Enda Kenny yesterday (Wednesday). Ballaghaderreen’s John O’Mahony was appointed spokesperson on Sport.
