If cosy interiors and friendly staff are what you crave this Christmas, then JJ Harlow’s is the perfect setting for that pre-yuletide catch-up.
“We have plenty of space with three separate bars, two cosy snugs and an open fire,” says the lovely Cáitlin McConn, who runs the premises with Brian Mugan. She adds: “We have a huge range of drinks on offer including over 20 wines sold by the glass, over 30 gins and a wide range of Irish Craft beers and live music in the back bar.”
Situated in the heart of Roscommon town, Cáitlin says JJ Harlow’s “have worked with a music promoter from day one to ensure a great mix of bands and DJs are on offer throughout the year with lots more on over the festive period.” This includes “lots of DJ nights during Christmas Week so there will be plenty to choose from whatever your taste.”
Any signature cocktails? “We don’t like to over-complicate the G&T and serve them simply with lots of ice, fresh lime and your choice of tonic. Our suggested tonic would be Thomas Henry, who have a lovely range including Elderflower and Cherry Blossom.”
And Caitlin’s personal recommendations for the perfect G&T? “Gunpowder Gin from Drumshanbo, Ha’penny Gin from Dublin and Mór Gin from Tullamore.”
For a special wine, it’s “Jose Pariente in a white and Rondover Rosso in red. We also have a beautiful Irish craft cider on draught and in bottles from MacIvors in Armagh, which come in a dry, medium and plum and ginger.”
The girl’s got taste, and after a long day, “a refreshing glass of white wine, either a French Sauvignon Blanc, Domaine De La Renne or Spanish Verdejo, Jose Pariente” hits the spot.
