Jamie Raftery from Clondoyle, Glenamaddy, was this week crowned the 2007 Gordon Ramsay Scholar at an event at Birmingham’s NEC. Jamie took on 32 of the UK’s best chefs and battled it out through a series of cook-offs over the course of the five-day event at the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham. The event culminated in an eight-strong final during which judges including Gordon Ramsay, Holdings chefs Angela Hartnett and Mark Askew picked Jamie as the overall winner. As the winner of the 2007 scholarship, Jamie takes home an array of prizes including a VW car, £5,000 and a week-long placement in each of Gordon’s signature restaurants in London, Paris and New York. The Glenamaddy native is currently chef de partie at Michael Caine’s two-Michelin starred Gidleigh Park Hotel in Devon. Jamie is a former pupil of St. Joseph’s NS, Glenamaddy, Glenamaddy Community School and GMIT.
