Ivan Connaughton of Connaughton Auctioneers has reported a big increase in the demand for agricultural land for both small and large holdings for both sale and long/ short-term letting.
Speaking to the Roscommon People Ivan said: “While the sale of lands were relatively low for the first half of 2016 compared to previous years, I have seen a steady improvement in enquires and sales of agricultural land throughout Co. Roscommon and we require lands for sale and letting in all locations for awaiting clients.
“While the farming sector has gone through very turbulent times, particularly those in tillage and cattle, many farmers now believe increasing their agricultural holding is the best way to maximise profits. The financial institutions have eased somewhat in lending money for purchase of agricultural lands and this is resulting in increased activity with the sale of farmlands.
“The demand for lands on short and long term leases will continue into 2017 and I currently require 3,000 acres to meet demand from farmers on recent enquiries alone. I envisage this to increase in the coming months.”
