American actor Patrick Duffy, best known for his role in the long-running US soap opera Dallas, went back to his roots last week when he popped in to Kilmovee while tracing his Irish ancestry.
Patrick (73), who played Bobby Ewing in the hit TV series, was accompanied in the County Mayo village – which is close to Ballaghaderreen, on the Roscommon/Mayo border – by his partner and Happy Days actress, Linda Purl.
A film crew was also in tow as Patrick and Linda were filming the pilot episode of a new TV series, which is supported by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.
The American actors were greeted by a large welcoming party in Kilmovee on Thursday afternoon, where Mr. Duffy visited the Duffy ancestral home and met with relatives from his great-grandfather’s side. Patrick’s great-grandfather emigrated in search of a better life in the 1800s.
“It seems that just about everybody around here carries the surname Duffy,” Duffy quipped, according to a report in the Irish Times.
