It’s Family Day at Races this Monday

There are a host of reasons to go racing in Roscommon next Monday. Here’s just a few – it’s family day, bargain price admission, free entertainment for children, fashion competitions for women and men, top class racing, music, special student price and much more.

The first race on Monday is at 5.15 pm.

With it being Family Day, this meeting always maintains its own unique atmosphere. And the value alone is hard to beat. For the bargain price of €10, one parent and three children can gain admission, with two parents and up to six children available at €20. Patrons should note this is a special family concession (children under 16) with standard prices applying otherwise: adults €13; OAPS €8. There is a special admission price for students for just €5 (student ID Cards must be produced on the day).

Just last week, the Racing Post featured a very favourable article about Roscommon track and all it has to offer.

With it being a family evening on Monday, there is fantastic free entertainment for the children to include Pirate Boat Train, Disco Dome, Rock and Roll Gladiator and Face Painting.

There are a number of added attractions to participate in or simply have a good browse: Most Stylish Hat competition (open to both male and female) – first prize €400 (cash), with two runner-up prizes of €100 each (cash).

There is a Best Dressed Male competition with a first prize of a Remus Uomo Suit, shirt and tie, while the remaining two finalists will receive a €100 voucher for the award-winning Donnellan & Co. Judging these events will be celebrity judge, Martha Lynn, Milliner, a native of Roscommon, who is making quite a name for herself in the world of fashion.

On the racing front, Monday’s card is a mixture of both flat and hurdle races. Races are being sponsored by Pyramid Bookmakers, The Abbey Hotel, Murray Ambulance Service, Richard Keogh and EBF while Gerry Gill Motors sponsor the Best Turned Out Horse in each race.

The card also features The Sean Cleary Memorial Handicap. There will be music in the bar on Monday after the second last race by The Usual Suspects, while there is a free bets competition on the race card.

Attractive discounts on group bookings. The Ros Special for €30 includes admission, race card, two-course meal and a €10 betting voucher.

Michael in dream-land!

Fresh from hosting a successful meeting in Roscommon on August 4th – and a personal breeding triumph at the recent Galway Festival – the manager at Lenebane, Michael Finneran, is looking forward to next Monday’s Races.

“We try to accommodate everyone on Family Day and we think next Monday’s events and attractions appeal to a wide audience. There’s something for everyone.” Michael had reason to be cheerful on the final day of the Galway Festival as Dollar And A Dream, which he bred, won the opener for trainer Tony Martin.
