Irish language event a huge success

The Coiste na dTuistí of Gaelscoil de Híde Roscommon hosted Roscommon’s first ever Irish language family event on Saturday, June 18th.

It was a great success, with over 200 people in attendance. Both beginner and fluent Irish speakers were present, coming out to chat and enjoy the experience of the living Irish language in our community, highlighting the strong Irish language culture and community in Roscommon. All the children enjoyed getting a treat from Nick’s ice cream van, and the sun stayed out for the occasion!

We at the Coiste na dTuistí of Gaelscoil de Híde Roscommon are indebted to the facility of Roscommon County Library and its fantastic library manager, Ruairí O Haodha. We also were delighted to have the Uachtarán of the Oireachtas na Gaeilge, Máirín de Brún, present; she was an inspiration to us all in her work promoting the awareness of the Irish language in our society.

There were twelve winners in our art competition, with many really fantastic entries – maith thú le gach paistí! Míle buíochas freisin to our junior comhaltas group, and the musicians who joined us on the day. They were fantastic performers and enjoyed by all!

A special thanks goes out to all the local community businesses who supported our raffle and prizes, including Cormican’s, Image furnishings, George Bannon Sports, Ros Clay Pottery Studio, Hynes Pharmacy and District Speciality Coffee.
