Carrickmacross lace, traditional craft and artificial intelligence will feature in this year’s Irish Design Week, which runs from November 7 to 14.
Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) announced the programme on Tuesday. Its 38 events will include exhibitions, workshops, talks and awards, bringing together designers, makers, businesses and members of the public across the country.
The theme, Fáilte Future Europe, reflects Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. DCCI says the programme will explore how design can contribute to a more competitive, sustainable and inclusive Europe.
Events will range from traditional crafts, including Carrickmacross lace, Donegal tweed and Connemara marble, to fashion, business innovation and the use of AI. A European Creative Industries Summit will take place on November 12, bringing together creative leaders, policymakers and industry representatives.
Mary Blanchfield, CEO of DCCI, said the week was an opportunity to build partnerships, commissions and commercial opportunities for Irish designers and makers.
“Our designers, makers and creative businesses are active contributors to Europe’s creative story, with knowledge, ideas and perspectives that have relevance far beyond our shores,” she said.
