Deirdre gets off to a flier at Easter Parade!
Deirdre Cribbin, a primary school teacher from Castleplunkett, was named as this year’s Roscommon Rose at the Abbey Hotel on Saturday night.
The 26-year-old had very little time to take it all in, however, as she was scheduled to appear at the Roscommon Easter Parade on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to the Roscommon People earlier this week, she said: “It has been a bit of a whirlwind. I was at the Easter Parade on Sunday and then WalknTalk in Ballintubber on Monday. I didn’t really have time to think about it but it has been great so far!”
The new Rose said she was looking forward to the year ahead and had already received some great advice from her predecessor, Aisling McNeill.
“Aisling had a great year. She got out of it what she put in. She was just so good on Saturday night. She came straight up to me when my name was read out and the advice started then. She has been a great support,” said Deirdre.
Deirdre was sponsored by The Lilac Rooms and the Roscommon Civil Defence volunteer expressed her gratitude to everyone who had enabled her to compete at this year’s event.
“I’ve always wanted to do it. It was now or never really because next year I’d be too old. This is the last year I could’ve done it and that makes it all the sweeter!” she said.
Deirdre will now join 63 other Roses in Tralee in August as she bids to follow in the footsteps of Aisling McNeill and make the televised final. One thing’s for sure: she’s embarking on an adventure that she will never forget.
