Inter-Varsity action at weekend

In the Connacht Inter Club Championships Junior B section Curraghboy defeated Ballymoe and the Curraghboy side now take on Salthill in Williamstown this week. The Curraghboy team is Philip O’Connor, Billy and Paul Kelly and Padraig Coyne.   In the girls Interprovincial championships (60 x 30) Connacht play Munster on Saturday, 24th in Ballina. The team will include: U-13 Lauren O’Riordan and Sara Coleman, U-14 doubles; S Curran and C Hanlon, U-15 doubles; Amy Corrigan and R Conneely, U 16;  Stephanie Coleman and Mary Duffy, U 17;  Leona Doolin and Hilary Rushe. Subs Marie Corrigan and AN Other.   The Inter-Varsity team events in the 40 x 20 grade take place this weekend at NUIG. Two weks ago Rikki O’Gara and Marianna Rushe were sucessful in the singles competitions. This weekend is a team event. The home college have a strong team but Sligo, with Christopher Doolin and DIT with Brian Carroll, Niall Gordon, Thomas McGrath, Dara O’Gara, Emer Coyle, Katie Costello and Afric Naughton appear to have a very strong squad.    In the USHA Nationals in Tucson Arizona Leona Doolin of St. Comans will travel to the USA on the 21st December with the Irish team to represent them at U-17 level against the best players from Mexico and the USA.   The Basque country in Spain will host the One-Wall Internationals starting on November the 29th. Competing will be Spain, Wales, England, France and Ireland. Roscommon’s Katie Costello, Leona Doolin, Marianna Rushe and Kerry’s Ashley Prenderville make up the four-girl team and there is a four-man team competing too.   Schools wishing to enter the Primary Schools handball competition are asked to enter now.
