There was no joy for Mayo in the All-Ireland senior doubles final at Croke Park at the weekend. They were dealt a cruel blow when Joe McCann sustained a serious football injury prior to the final and Kevin Geraghty came in on the right side to partner Dessie Keegan. They lost to Eoin Kennedy and Egin Jensen of Dublin in straight games. Eoin is son of Eugene Kenny who was born in Boyle and Eoin’s grand-dad won a Junior title for Roscommon in the 1940s. In the intermediate final (singles) Ollie Cassidy of Mayo lost to Tipperary opposition. Comans’ Aengus Cunningham was referee. Connacht Junior singles semi-final at St. Comans: A superb win for Ballymoe’s Lorcan Maughan in the Junior semi-final at Comans. He outclassed the experienced Ollie Conway of Williamstown 21-8, 21-3. Novice Doubles Connacht final: Kieran Cox -T. McDonagh (Mayo) beat Padraig Kenny-Declan Connaughton (Williamstown) in the Connacht Novice doubles final 21-7, 21-7. Connacht Junior doubles final: Lorcan Maughan of Ballymoe who is having a great year teams up with Seamus Connolly and this talented pair will meet Alan Tierney and Ollie Conway of Galway at Comans on dae to be decided. Winners will play Leinster at Connacht venue on 29/30 September. Under-21 Singles: After a recent win over Mayo the Coman’s star Christopher Doolin appears set to be the Connacht winner and will play the Leinster winner at a Leinster venue on 6 th or 7 th of October. Comans meeting: This Friday night (21 st ) at 8 pm Comans holds a Club meeting.
