ICMSA: Irish beef prices adrift of similar markets

The Chairperson of ICMSA’s Livestock Committee, Des Morrison, has again expressed his concerns regarding Irish beef prices, claiming they are ‘adrift’ of similar markets.

Calling on Meat Industry Ireland to furnish an explanation for price differences, Mr Morrison said: “We’d particularly be interested in hearing why there’s a 33c per kg difference between the Republic and our Northern colleagues?”

Mr Morrison said care must be taken by the industry to avoid a situation where the only people able to finish winter cattle are the factories’ feedlots themselves.
