Hurling semi-finals this weekend

Final four!

With the Kepak Roscommon Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Finals at Athleague looming large this weekend, Seamus Duke takes a look at the formbook…

Four Roads v Tremane on Saturday at 5.30 pm

Tremane have a mountain to climb when they face Four Roads in the first of the SHC semi-finals on Saturday evening. Shane Curley’s men have been in tremendous form this year and they have swept all comers out of the way in their march into the last four.

Tremane looked like they could have been in danger of going out of the championship at one stage a few weeks ago but they have dug in and recorded two good wins against Pádraig Pearses and St Dominic’s.

When the sides met in the championship earlier in the year Four Roads won by 18 points, but in fairness to Tremane they have been far more competitive in recent games with the likes of Peter Kellehan, Niall Kilroy, Joe Brennan and Michael Brennan all playing well.

But Four Roads have been in sparkling form all year and it would be a massive shock if they were not to win with a bit to spare. Prediction: Four Roads

Athleague v Oran on Sunday at 2 pm

Athleague will start as strong favourites for this second semi-final but Oran have always been able to give them a game in the championship and this could be a closely fought game.

Cathal Kenny and Paddy Fallon are very dangerous in attack for Ciaran Farrell’s men and they could be the Oran trump cards on Sunday.

However, Athleague look strong all around the field and they have been impressive under Gary Fallon and they won easily when the sides met earlier in the group games.

Oran could give Athleague plenty to think about but it looks like a Four Roads and Athleague final. Prediction: Athleague
