Hurlers taste first league loss

After an excellent win against London in round one, Roscommon senior hurlers slumped to a nine-point defeat against Tyrone in Carrickmore last Sunday in the Allianz League Division 2B. Full-time score: Tyrone 0-20 Roscommon 0-11.

Roscommon competed well in the first quarter and led at one stage by 0-4 to 0-3, but Tyrone took over before the break and they were ahead by 0-12 to 0-6 at half-time.

Tyrone maintained their dominance in the second period and ran out comfortable winners in the end. Roscommon will now travel to Wicklow on Saturday week in round three.

Manager Kevin Sammon says that although it was disappointing to lose the match, he is looking forward to the rest of the season.

“We don’t like to lose any game, but it’s only the second round of the National League. We are only getting to know the players and we are learning a lot as we go on. We will put this behind us now and get ready for the Wicklow match” he said.
