Hurlers can make it two wins on the spin!

Allianz National Hurling League Division 3A (Round 2)

Roscommon v Monaghan on Sunday at Dr. Hyde Park at 12.30 pm

The Roscommon hurlers can build on their excellent opening win against Louth with another two points on Sunday when they face a Monaghan team who will be without their Castleblayney contingent. The Monaghan club are contesting an All-Ireland club final the following week. Early comers to Dr. Hyde Park will get a chance to see these two teams in action which is very welcome.

Gearoid Egan, Conor Mulry, Shane Curley, Padraig Kelly, Cillian Egan and Eamon Flanagan were all prominent last weekend as the Rossies played some great attacking hurling especially in the opening half. They put up a score of 3-18 which was a big total in poor conditions.

Speaking to People Sport on Tuesday, Roscommon manager Ciarán Comerford said that he was very pleased with the display against Louth.

“We were very happy with the way the lads played. The game was over at half-time and we put up a good score which is always good,” he said.

“Conor Mulry is a doubt for Sunday’s game and Naos Connaughton is out long-term so we will be going with much the same team as last week. Monaghan are coming into the game on the back of a heavy defeat last Sunday so they will be all fired up. But it’s a game that we will be hoping to win and it would be good to have two wins on the board.

“It’s also good to be playing in Dr. Hyde Park and there will be plenty of interest in the game with the footballers playing there afterwards,” he concluded.

With Monaghan missing almost half their usual team this is a great chance for Roscommon to record their second win in as many weeks as the promotion push gathers momentum. It would be a shock if the home side do not win with a bit to spare.

Prediction: Roscommon
