Hurlers can get back on track in Wicklow

Roscommon senior hurlers have a difficult away trip to face Wicklow in round three of the Allianz National Hurling League Division 2B on Sunday (at 2 pm).

Manager Kevin Sammon will hope that the disappointing result against Tyrone in round two was just an ‘off day’ and that the excellent win against London in round one is more indicative of the side’s current ability.

Wicklow were always a very hard side to beat – especially in Aughrim – but they have slipped back in the past couple of years, and as a result are not as formidable as in the past.

It remains to be seen what line-up the Roscommon management team will opt for, but the likes of Conor Cosgrove, James Dillon, Mickey Joe Egan, Sean Canning, Conor Mulry, Paddy Fallon and Brendan Mulry have been playing well and hopefully they will provide the required inspiration on Sunday.

There was a time when Roscommon would travel to face Wicklow away with a mindset of giving a good account of themselves and keeping the score down. Times have changed. This is an eminently winnable game for the Rossies if they can produce their best form.
