Hospital saved my life – Manager

The County Manager, Mr. John Tiernan, said that he owed his own life to Roscommon Hospital. Relating that he had a heart attack five years ago, Mr. Tiernan said that he was taken by ambulance to Roscommon Hospital in a 40-minute journey. Looking to the medical personnel on stage beside him, Mr. Tiernan said: ‘One of your colleagues saved my life and I was told that if I had been taken to another hospital, it’s an undertaker I would have needed, not a doctor.’    Mr. Tiernan said that the march was being held because county councillors had picked up on the concerns and worries of the public. The event was a non-political one. He praised the ‘tremendous’ turnout which he said would send out a very important message to the Government.    Noting that Roscommon has the services of a town with a bigger population, Mr. Tiernan said that the presence of a Hospital is always highlighted by him when he speaks to industrialists, venture capitalists and project promoters.     ‘We must maintain the Hospital on a 24-7 basis
