Roscommon County Hospital issued a statement welcoming this week’s report – despite its findings – and stating that they are working towards a significant improvement in hygiene standards at the hospital. The full statement reads as follows: Roscommon County Hospital has today welcomed the report from HIQA. The Hospital has focused on improving hygiene and cleanliness over the last two years and HIQA has drawn attention to the progress made, including: * The extensive compliance in relation to the cleaning of the Hospital’s equipment. * The standard of cleanliness within the main kitchen and the ward kitchens was high. There is segregation of cleaning and food service at ward kitchen level and this was commended. * Hand hygiene practices observed were satisfactory. HIQA have highlighted areas for improvement. In many instances those issues raised have been dealt with. For example, progress is underway to deal with maintenance issues that HIQA have raised, e.g. replacement of sinks. Also, Roscommon County Hospital is implementing the recommendations HIQA make around better documentation. A plan has been put in place and Roscommon County Hospital will continue to monitor and evaluate the implementations of the recommendations.’
