Hospital: Finneran issues new statement and says ‘nothing has changed’

Fianna Fail Deputy Michael Finneran issued the following statement regarding Roscommon County Hospital to the Roscommon People on Wednesday afternoon:    ‘It is not my intention to comment or speculate on local internal meetings of the Health Service Executive.    ‘On the 12 th September 06 I attended a meeting held  in the office of the Minister for Health & Children.  Present were Minister Mary Harney T.D. with Senior Officials from the Department of Health & Children and Senior Officials from the Health Service Executive.    ‘At that meeting it was agreed that In-Patient Surgery would continue to be provided at Roscommon County Hospital. It was also agreed that there would be a joint Department of Surgery and Anaesthetics between Roscommon County Hospital and Portiuncula Hospital, with two General Surgeons based at each hospital and a fifth extra Surgeon specialising in Gastro/Intestine Surgery would be appointed with the hours to be agreed with both hospitals.    ‘The position is Minister Harney T.D. has not informed me of any proposed change to the agreement of the 12 th September 06, or no member of Government has indicated to me of any change.    ‘The Hospital Action Committee failed to support my position on the Roscommon County Hospital. In fact a determined political attempt was made by the HAC to block my re-election to Dáil Éireann.       ‘The position is the people of Roscommon again rejected the HAC and instead placed their trust in Deputy Michael Finneran to continue his work on behalf of the Roscommon County Hospital’.
