Hometown hero Hannelly takes Kenny Cup

One of the highlights of the Roscommon Darts calendar took place last Sunday, as The Tommy Kenny Memorial Cup was held in Creaton’s of Loughglynn.

26 players were there to take part and the standard did not disappoint. High scoring was complimented by some high checkouts throughout the day, with Creaton’s Brendan Harrington taking the prize for ‘Highest Checkout’ with a 115 finish.

The main event however was the final. On one side was local favourite, Vinny Hannelly, right. The Forge player had followed up a 4-2 quarter-final win over Creaton’s Brendan Harrington with a gritty 5-4 semi-final win over Charlie’s John Paul Feeney in a game which went down to the wire.

His opponent was McDermott’s Gary Concannon. A 4-1 win over Noel Ryan in the quarter-finals had put Concannon through to the semi-finals where a 5-1 over Flanagan’s Donal Coyne sealed his place in the final.   It was Vinny Hannelly, however, who came out on top in the final with an impressive 6-3 win. Well done to both players on an excellent final of high-class darts.

Many thanks to all players who attended the event, a great turnout on a highly enjoyable day of darts. Special thanks also to all who helped support the raffle on the day raising valuable funds for Roscommon Youths’ Darts. Many thanks also to Creaton’s for hosting the event and the food provided on the day.

Well done also to the Kenny Family, Sean Finan and everyone else who helped run such a successful and enjoyable day of darts, which we will all look forward to next year.
